How did I not know this? And I’m surprised because I’ve been a serious cyclist for 30 years. My house is decorated with a large collection of vintage bicycle and bicycle-themed pieces. I guess I need to buy the book!

It could be argued that James Starley, JK’s uncle, was the greater of the two when it came to engineering genius. James is known as the “father of the British bicycle trade”.

A genius and arguably one of the greatest inventors of all time. What other inventor has created something that is still fundamentally unchanged and continues to impact the lives of billions of people? I’m a keen cyclist yet had never heard of him. It should be mandatory in all of our schools
